In Device manager, go under 'Other Devices', I had a bunch of items with yellow exclamations on them. (Sorry I should have taken a screenshot, but had no idea it'd fix it.) anyways, i just clicked on 'Update Driver' and then when a selected 'Automaticall seach online', and then my laptop just did the rest. NOTE that you have to do this for every item (with an exclamation mark) ONE by ONE!

The touchpad worked. The i2c driver obviously isn't included in the chipset drivers you can download from the Acer website, so.it will stay as basic for now.Thank you, this worked to solve my issue with the Aspire ES1-512 touch pad that had stopped working when I needed to reinstall Windows with 8.1.

I tested a lot of different Synaptics drivers but not functional touchpad in Win 10. However, Win 7 an Vista the touchpad worked fine. For unknown reasons Win 10 directly installed a Synaptics driver.

I've made a few attempts at solving this but have yet found an answer. I have followed the guide mentioned and can confirm that when I search for the 'view pen and touch info' I get the information ' No pen or touch input is available for this display'. Well, it certainly used to have. The model is a HP pavilion x360!!!! Interstingly enough usin the HP support assistant software I am unable to update the intel virtual buttons driver it tells me I need to update. It doesn't give me an error code it just says the installation failed. Is that something to do with it?

Had to go to Device Manager and rollback the driver for Intel Serial IO I2C ES Controller (it went back to 2013 driver version instead of 2015) but now there are no more issues in device manager and the touchpad works fine after reboot. What is 'Intel Serial IO I2C ES Controller' and whats up with the latest update for it that Microsoft is trying to push through Windows Update? Update: After upgrading to Windows 10 the system defaulted to the 2015 version of the Intel Serial IO I2C ES Controller and once again it showed up with an error in device manager and Dell Touch pad was not listed and was not working properly. This time there was no option to roll back the driver. I had to click on Update Driver > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > I was presented with 3 options one of which was simply called Intel I2C Controller. I selected that one and it installed and the error went away and right after Dell Touchpad also appeared in Device Manager and started working properly. I checked the version of the driver that got installed using the method above and it's the same that Dell has on their support page.

The driver was recent (from 5/2015). I rolled back the driver (it went back to a 2013 version) and rebooted. After the reboot everything was back to normal.touchpad working fine, synaptic drivers re-appeared, no more issues in device manager. No right/left click and it appears to not understand multi-touch. Looking at the Toshiba support site shows these drivers are from earlier 2014 so I hope they work on a driver soon. Also, once you enable the touchpad it does work (without the added features that really make it useful). You need to re-enable the driver manually after every reboot. The only saving grace is this laptop has a touch screen which does appear to be functioning just fine.
